It has long been considered the messenger of the gods due to the fact that mercury is the mouth piece, so to speak, and first to receive communication from the Sun. As the fastest planet, Mercury is symbolic of quick comprehension and ease of expression. From a psychological standpoint Mercury points to the power of the mind. Mercury also describes the nature of our thoughts and our mental capabilities.
